LaTeX document class files for Chulalongkorn University's Thesis

I have posted updated LaTeX class files for theses and dissertation of Chulalongkorn University. However, I have not written a manual for it yet. Instead, I provide my own dissertation as an example. The files can be used for both master and doctoral degree and also for either Thai or English language.

Chulalongkorn Universtiy Latex Class Files

You can find LaTeX class files for Theses and Dissertations of Chulalongkorn University here. This latex class was used by me and some of my colleagues and students, mostly in the Faculty of Engineering, to typeset our theses.

This class file, however, is not the official class file. In fact, there is no such thing as the official class file since the Graduated School of Chulalongkorn, to the best of my knowledge, has never sanctioned any latex class file. Anyway, thesis and dissertation using this class file PASSED the inspection (latest inspected thesis was dated March 2009) and that should be enough for everyone.

Additional Information
* These class files can be used for both master degree theses and the doctoral degree dissertations.
* It supports both Thai and English language.
* You need to set up your LaTeX to recognize Thai font. Here is my article how to do so. (English theses also require one front page in Thai.)
* Any bug and comment are strongly welcome. Please send it to me directly.

I have not finalized the manual of these latex class files. Instead, a user can look into the provided example dissertation.

The main latex file is dae_dissert.tex while the style file is chula.cls

True, MaxNet, TOT Part #1

After reading NoNT's blog about his internet topic, I decided to log mine as well. This entry is directly re-log from my wedding site

I am looking for internet service for my new home at Ratchapruek Rd. Well, the project office told me that they have TOT node right in front of the project entrance. Having heard several rumors about TOT and been using True for years, I first want to try whether my new place falls under True's wing. I called the call center a few days ago, the promotion is quite promising. For around 900 Baht + one-time ~2000, I would get free TrueVision (the most basic package with just the FreeTV and the demo of true vision channel) plus 300 credit for one new TrueMove number and 3M ADSL. The only catch is that they have to check for a few day whether my house is on their coverage. On Monday saying that my home is out of their reach, what a bad news. So I went to nearest MaxNet booth just to have the same answer which mean that I am stuck with TOT.

Today, I contacted TOT and they said that my villa has a special project where I could get 3M for the price of 590 per month, quite interesting... BUT... of course, there is a catch. They don't know yet whether I could have that speed. (I don't know what is the factor.) Anyway, I have to spend 3,585 for the registration fee, noticeably higher than True and MaxNet. I paid it anyway. Let see whether it comes to fruition.

Wedding site updated

Several updates have been posted to my wedding site

My Wedding

Some might know already, but I am going to tell it anyway. I am getting married!!! Yeah!!! Next month. The detail is

Date: Sunday, May 10, 2009
Place: Narai Ballrom, Narai Hotel
Time: 18:30
Banquet Style: Chinese Table

More detail can be found at http://www.bo-dae.com

Making service survives reboot on Ubuntu

This might seems trivial to many people. However, I don't really know how to have some of my SysV init scripts being executed every time a machine restart. For Fedora, this is very simple using chkconfig. However, I don't know what is its equivalence on Ubuntu.

Googling around and I found that the command is actually update-rc.d. A default modus operandi is

update-rc.d foobar defaults

where foobar is my init script. This will place links to /etc/init.d/foobar on appropriate run levels.

MiKTeX update

I have updated Thai font installation on MiKTeX 2.6 and 2.7. Please check the original article.

Cheap earpiece

A few months ago, I bought an earpiece of the brand TDK, discounted @400 baht. The sound is good but I don't know whether it worth THB400. Anyway, last week I went to Pantip and saw an earpiece of the price THB69. Obviously I grabbed it and the result is that it is damn terrible. Seems like the TDK is a good deal for me.

The funniest point is that I was not satisfied with the TDK until I bought that THB69. Human, imperfect...

Thai LaTeX on MikTeX 2.7

I haven't write any paper since about last 6 months. That covers the period when I changed my PC. That's a good time to update my MikTeX installation. Now, with MikTeX 2.7 in hand, I can review again the process of installing Thai language support.

-- side note --
You can look at my detailed previous entry here. There contains the information to install Thai language in MikTeX 2.6 and 2.5. The process is very similar to that of 2.7
-- end side note --

The process to install thai language in 2.6 and 2.7 are practically the same. The step are listed there

  1. Modify babel to recognize thai language
  2. Installing the font.

Font installing is complex. I have laid out the detail in the previous entry. However, this image should provide a rough idea of what to be done.

Finally, MikTeX 2.7 comes with XeTeX which allow you to use truetype font immediately. This solution is very promising. I will have more update on this very soon.(only partially) what to have Thai language available on miktex.
